How to Clean Rubber Gym Flooring

To maintain your rubber gym flooring, vacuum often to remove dirt and particles, removing any hard substances carefully with a plastic or wooden scraper. Do not use a metal scraper as it will scratch and damage the surface of the flooring.

Do not use acids (bleach, vinegar, bathroom cleaners), alkalis (butyl cleaners and high pH strippers), or Petro-Chemicals (cleaners containing oil, grease, solvents or abrasives).

Only use pH neutral soap and cleaning fluids and ensure that a weak solution is used. Do not use a solution with high concentration of cleaning agent as this will leave a residue on the surface of the rubber once it dries.

Spillages of oil, grease, and solvents should be cleaned off immediately to prevent damage to the surface of the tiles. Wipe off as soon as possible and clean any residue with soap and water.

Steam Cleaning

Steam cleaning is the best way to clean rubber flooring. Steam cleaning will naturally disinfect and refreshes the rubber without the use of harsh chemicals.

Damp Mopping/Scrubbing

Damp mopping/scrubbing is probably the most common method. First vacuum the floor to remove loose dirt and then use a nylon type mop rather than a cotton one to avoid leaving particles on the rubber surface due to friction.

Never use any products that contain petroleum or bleach or anything that contains a wax compound. Petroleum/bleach cleaners will seriously deteriorate the rubber over time. Waxed based cleaners will leave behind a slippery residue that can become a health and safety hazard.

You should always clean a small area first to reveal how the cleaner will react with the rubber surface.

Following cleaning, water droplets dry and leave behind an unwanted residue. Clean a section of floor and then dry off the excess water to avoid this issue.
